有你，晚年不孤单

在亚罗士打城市一间破旧的木屋里，住着一对膝下无子的84岁老夫妇——张老爷爷（化名）和老奶奶。他们平时靠着捡拾纸皮为生，有时也靠亲友给予的补贴，勉强维持生活。但这些钱不足以让他们餐餐温饱。

全备福音堂7979全人关怀站于2022年开始，透过“7979吗哪食物银行”的吗哪包资助他们，应付生活所需。除了吗哪包物资，志工也会把收好的纸皮拿给他们以进行售卖。

除此之外，志工看到这对老夫妇时常挨饿，便于心不忍，决定帮他们预备早餐。有时，志工打包面类食物，或者买一些面包、饼干给他们充饥。在长期的帮助和陪伴下，老夫妇从志工身上感受满满的关怀与温暖。
     
2024年，老爷爷身体不适，入院检查，结果被诊断他患有癌症，而且处于末期状况。老奶奶得知此事后，难过不已。志工上门探访他们时，她拉着志工，哭着问志工是否会离世；志工只能安慰老奶奶，并鼓励她。

随着张老爷爷健康每况愈下，身体越来越虚弱，志工坚持陪伴张老爷爷。不久，张老爷爷就因病情恶化，不幸离世，留下老奶奶孤零零一个人。志工持续陪伴和关心她，甚至帮忙联系到一间疗养中心，有个领养计划，可以以领养贫困老人入住该中心，而老奶奶就透过此机会，顺利到该中心安享晚年。每次志工去疗养中心看望老奶奶时，她都把他们当成家人。有志工长期陪伴，让膝下无子的老夫妇不再感到孤单，即使面对病痛死亡，也都有人陪伴和诉说。

 I Will Not Be Lonely in My Golden Years With Your Company

In a shabby wooden house in Alor Setar lived an 84-year-old elderly couple, Grandpa Zhang (pseudonym) and his wife. They lived mainly on picking and selling recycled cartons, and occasionally, their relatives and friends would give them some money. The money they had was insufficient for them to enjoy proper meals; it was merely enough to survive.

The 7979 Holistic Care Station of Full Gospel Church (AOG) Alor Setar, established in 2022, assisted this couple through the “7979 Manna Food Bank Program.” Besides the Manna Food Bag, the volunteers would also deliver some collected cartons for them to sell.

The volunteers also noticed that this elderly couple was often hungry. They were uneasy about this discovery and decided to prepare breakfast for them. The volunteers would pack noodles or give them bread or biscuits to eat. This elderly couple felt the volunteers’ genuine care and warmth after a long period of consistent care and companionship.

In 2024, Grandpa Zhang was admitted to the hospital after feeling discomfort, and the result of the diagnosis showed that he had cancer and was already at the final stage. His wife was downhearted when she heard the news. When the volunteers visited them, she would pull the volunteers aside and ask whether he would die. The volunteers could only console and encourage her.

The volunteers insisted on accompanying Grandpa Zhang as he became weaker due to deteriorating health. Not long after, Grandpa Zhang became critical and passed away, leaving his wife behind alone. The volunteers continued to care for and accompany her. They managed to contact a nursing home with an adoption plan, which accepts financially challenged elderly people to live in the centre. Through this method, Granny was successfully admitted into the nursing home to enjoy her golden years. Granny treated the volunteers who visited her at the nursing home as her family members.

This ageing, childless couple never felt lonely with the company of committed volunteers. They were always surrounded by people and listening ears, even when coping with illness or death.
