While our government and people focus on fighting against Covid-19 virus, Salung, a small village in Pensiangan and Sapulut in Sabah experience severe flood on 8th April 2020. The rain that continue to pour down for few days cause the river water level to rise and flooded the land along the river. This is the most serious flood happened in that area.
This flood affected around 60 indigenous families. Their houses and 4 pieces of farmland with crops are all gone.
When we received this news, we thank God for BCCM CGC who willing to take the lead and work together with 7 local churches to gather the relief goods and make arrangement to send the goods from Kota Kinabalu to Keningau. Together with goods collected in Keningau were send to Sapulut. As this is MCO period, we need to apply for the permit twice in order to send the goods to Salung.
After the 6-hours long journey, all the relief goods, including clothes, medicines and basic food items finally reached the affected area. 7979 Holistic Care Relief Network also donated RM3,000.00 to support this move under Emergency Aid Fund.
At the moment, the water had receded. Once the MCO lifted, church plans to help villagers to re-plot their farmland.
