We will not be hungry for our next meal! Written by: Sow Yee / Translated by: Anne Lim
As she departed from her beloved family, travelling farther away from the familiar hills and lakes towards an unknown journey, she carried with her not only a large luggage but a heavy responsibility to fend for her family.
Flora, the sole breadwinner from an underprivileged family came to Malaysia to work, got married, earn for livelihood just like her other country mates. Marriage is a wonderful journey in life but not so for Flora, as her first husband died of cancer and her existing husband is just being dawdled and not having any decent job. The family is in financial difficulties to make ends meet! Her health condition does not permit her to overwork, therefore she could only operate her noodle stall three days a week. Her meagre income and some support from the welfare department, is barely enough to sustain her daily needs, not to mention, her eldest daughter’s surgery expenses and the education expenses for her two children. Her financial predicament often put her in very stressful and tearful situations.
The christian neighbor next door sought assistance from Full Gospel Mission Centre Jelebu, a 7979 Holistic Care Station, upon knowing about Flora’s situation. The 7979 volunteers visited and assisted her to apply for 7979 Manna Food Bags and this has helped to improve her financial condition while the church also stepped in from time to time to support their needs. She looks forward to the Manna food bag distribution every two months and no longer worry about her next meal, especially when the variety of canned foods received are with a longer shelf life.
She could still smile after bringing her daughter back from a successful surgery although it was stressful. Her daughter is able to walk more normally nowadays. Although burdened with the surgery cost, the family could still have meals at home with the help of Manna Food Bag. The volunteers looked at each other with gratified smiles when they see Flora is now joyful and happy. Flora got to know Jesus and was willing to accept Jesus Christ as her Savior after several visitations and sharing by church. She confidently said “Jesus Loves You”, “Jesus Christ is so Good” to everyone with her smattering mandarin to thank God for taking care of her. Her circumstances remained, but Flora can now bravely move forward and face the future with her hope in Jesus Christ.
