Year 2021 during MCO, the public primary and secondary schools turned physical classes into online classes. Every student was required to use a digital device that could access the internet to attend classes. A girl from a poor family could not attend classes regularly because her family was unable to provide her with a mobile phone with data service.
When Persatuan Kebajikan Hati Nurani Johor Bahru came to know of their family condition, they referred this family to 7979 Holistic Care Station (Hereby referred to as Care Station) of Gereja Presbyterian Holy Light Tun Aminah. Our volunteers, Sherleen Tan and Serene Lim helped this family to apply for aid from the 7979 Crisis Intervention Fund, they also bought her a second-hand mobile phone, and finally, she could attend classes. This little girl is the first aid recipient of this Care Station. “After sending 4 times of Crisis Intervention Aid, the initially shy and timid girl who refused to meet us, had finally opened her heart to us.” The volunteer shared how joyful was the family when they received the monetary aid. What can a church do?

When we stepped into the church, the beautiful artwork on the wall caught the eyes of our interviewer. There was one wall which has many pictures on it, underneath the wall was a box with the label “The Good Samaritan” to place donated food. “The Good Samaritan” is a department set up by Care Station which comprises a group of brothers and sisters passionate about caring for others.
This church is located in Skudai, Johor. There are a few old and run-down flats nearby, many of which are occupied by poor and underprivileged families. Because of this factor, it attracted the attention of those few who care for their communities, and their kind intentions gained full support from their senior pastor, Rev. Allan Kong. Thus, they established “The Good Samaritan”. Upon the establishment, Rev. Allan Kong invited Teacher Bryant Teo (the founder of Persatuan Kebajikan Hati Nurani Johor Bahru) to teach them how to organise and promote social care. Initially, Teacher Bryant suggested the food bank approach, however, the church thought that many organisations were already doing that, so they decided to do something different. Henceforth, he encouraged the church to move towards the direction of soul and spiritual care approach, which could help underprivileged families practically.

Money can accomplish many thingsIn 2018, Rev. Allan Kong together with a group of brothers and sisters went to Kuching to attend our third “Malaysian Christians Holistic Care Conference” to be equipped for their upcoming social care ministry. From there, they came to know of 7979 Holistic Care Relief Network (7979 HCRN) and their programs. After some consideration, they decided to join 7979 HCRN upon the establishment of “The Good Samaritan”.
MCO was enforced not long after the establishment of "The Good Samaritan", henceforth some initial committee members were stranded in Singapore due to work. Coincidentally, Rev. Allan discovered that there was another group of church members who were active in another food bank ministry, they were also trained by Teacher Bryant Teo and had other advantages too. Both Sherleen Tan and Serene Lim are from this group of people. Therefore, with one heart all team members raised resources to help those in need. “Actually, at that time, Rev. Allan Kong kept emphasised that all that was temporary only, and out of our expectation, it continues to operate until today.” Serene laughingly shared the past. In the process of ministering to the needy, Sherleen Tan and Serene Lim frankly shared that although those aid recipients had received food provision, they still had many other needs, e.g. rental and transport expenses. “Money can accomplish many things, it can help to improve the lives of the underprivileged.” Serene Lim said the Crisis Intervention Fund can indeed help many underprivileged families. When “The Good Samaritan” was about to recruit volunteers, 4 couples and a few volunteers appeared during that time, and among them were Sherleen Tan and Serene Lim, and their husband. Sherleen rose to the occasion, she quickly assigned one couple to lead each group, and finally came up with 5 visitation teams. Volunteer teams that are led by married couples have several advantages, they can better understand the complications of every family which also comprises male and female differences in rational and emotional aspects. Besides, the model of one family helping another family not only covers the wholesome needs of a family but could also set an example for the underprivileged family. This caring model could also influence the family members of the volunteering family.
When the reporter asked them about the challenges they faced in ministering to the needy, they answered simultaneously: “No.” This is because the volunteers in “The Good Samaritan” are willing to help each other, whenever problems arose, they would share and discuss. “Sometimes, some group members might be on leave, then other volunteers from another group would cover them.” Sherleen Tan said that their volunteers not only care for their community, but they are also very willing to help each other out, this has indirectly reduced the pressure on the volunteers. “The Good Samaritan” has been established for 4 years, both Sherleen Tan and Serene Lim were unstinting in their praises for Rev. Allan Kong, acknowledging him as the man behind the scene, who enables the ministry to run smoothly by helping those aid recipients. Rev. Allan Kong who is usually busy does not only care for the development of “The Good Samaritan”, he will also try his best to fulfil their request. If the need arises, he is most willing to visit the aid recipients together with the volunteers.
A small sum of money does not make someone rich, yet it can bring a glimpse of hope for the poor and underprivileged, just like a ray of warm sunlight, brightens up their heart. A ray of sunlight can be the driving force of “The Good Samaritan” in people-helping. 2021年行动管制令（MCO），全国中小学校从实体课堂转为网课。每位学生需要使用能上网的电子设备来学习。一位来自贫穷家庭的女孩，因家人没有能力购买手机和网线配套，所以经常缺课。 展新关怀协会知道女孩一家面临的处境，便将他们转介给基督教长老会皇后圣光教会7979全人关怀站（以下称为“关怀站”），志工陈忆菁和林莉莉便为这个家庭申请7979急难救助金，也为她购买二手手机，她终于可以上网课了。这名小女孩就是关怀站的第一个受惠者。“领受了四次急难救助金后，害羞和自卑的她，原本不敢见我们，后来打开心房接受我们！” 志工们回忆，并分享这家庭接受那笔救助金后露出的喜悦。 成立“爱邻舍”
莉莉和漂亮的墙面
踏入教会，精美的墙面吸引本团队采访记者的眼球，其中一面墙挂着许多相片，下面放着一个木箱子，是“爱邻舍”（关怀站成立的社区关怀组织）食物置放处。“爱邻舍”是由一班热衷于社区关怀事工的志工组成，是关怀站成立的部门。
教会位于柔佛州的士古来，这里有老旧的平民组屋，住了不少贫困和弱势家庭。因而，引起一班关爱社区的人们关心，这份心意获得教会主理江仁健牧师的鼎力支持，于是成立“爱邻舍”。成立后，牧师邀请张景文老师（展新关怀协会创办人）教导如何组织及推动社会关怀工作。起初老师建议先推行食物银行，但是有许多组织已经在做相同的事情，我们便思考教会可以做什么不一样的事情？

有钱可以做很多事为了预备参与和开始社会关怀事工，仁健牧师在2018年与一班人远赴砂拉越古晋，参加“第三届大马基督徒全人关怀研讨会”。他们从中认识了7979全人关怀救助网络这项关怀社区的方案。经一番考量后，牧师和这几位志工筹备“爱邻舍”时，加入7979全人关怀救助网络。
筹备工作不久就迎来MCO，原本的委员因为工作被迫留在新加坡。正好，牧师发现另一班曾活跃于其他食物银行的人、接受过景文老师的培训和具备其他优势等，忆菁和莉莉就是出自这班人。于是，团员们齐心援助物资给受助者。“当时，牧师和我们强调一切都是暂时的，没想到‘爱邻舍’仍旧运作至今。”莉莉笑着提及加入“爱邻舍”的往事。 扶助个案时，莉莉和忆菁坦言许多个案虽然拥有了食物，其实还有其他的需要，例如租金和车油费。 “钱可以让弱势家庭改善很多问题，因为可以用钱做很多事。”莉莉说，能用急难救助金实际地帮助贫苦弱势家庭。她也赞扬7979急难家庭救助方案为“爱邻舍”开了新的道路，例如良好的个案管理系统。 幕后推手
“爱邻舍”团长忆菁姐妹
正当“爱邻舍”在召集想要做关怀社区的志工时，刚好有四对夫妇，包括团长忆菁、莉莉和她们的丈夫，以及一些志工出现。忆菁见状，便安排一对夫妇带一个小组，最后组成了五个探访小组。由夫妻带领的志工小组有许多好处，包括从男性和女性的理性及感性思维的特质更全面了解个案情况。此外，一个家庭帮助另一个弱势家庭的举动，不仅可以从整个家庭的需要为考量，也可以成为受助家庭的模范。这样的关怀模式，也影响了志工的家人开始慰问个案。
当记者问她们服侍个案过程中是否遇到挑战。她们异口同声的说：“没有”。因为“爱邻舍”志工们都愿意互相帮助，有问题就分享和讨论个案的情况。“有时，小组有人请假，其他小组的志工会帮忙补上。”忆菁说，志工不只乐于分享从事社区关怀心得，也愿意担当其他小组的重担，无形中减轻了个人的压力。 “爱邻舍”成立至今有四年，忆菁和莉莉不吝于称赞仁健牧师是这一切的幕后推手，使关怀工作得以顺利展开，例如愿意协助关怀个案。平日忙碌的牧师，不仅关心“爱邻舍”的进展，也会尽量满足志工的要求。若有需要，他也会抽空，随同团员探访个案。
一笔小小的金钱不能使人过上富裕的日子，却能为低收入和弱势家庭带来一线希望，犹如一缕温暖的阳光，照亮他们的心田。一缕阳光，是激发“爱邻舍”坚持助人的动力。  CLICK HERE FOR ENGLISH VERSION
Fourteen years ago, Ally (Pseudonym) came to know Ah Kian (Pseudonym) who is fifteen years older than her in a Karaoke, it was not long after that they fell in love and married. They lived in Kulai, Johor. Ally had worked as a receptionist at a clinic and a supermarket before. Ah Kian did not receive much education, he started working and dropped out of school at a very young age. After Ally delivered, she stayed at home to care for their children. To Ally, Ah Kian is a hardworking man who is willing to sacrifice for the family. They have two daughters, and although they could not afford luscious food on the table but were manageable with their income. Sometimes, when finances are tight, they have to resort to overnight food.
Will You Look Down on Mummy?Previously, whenever Ally faced some problems, she would just take it as it was, she would not speak out or express her thoughts. On top of that, she has been taking care of the elderly at home for some time, accumulation of suppressed feelings gradually turned into an emotional illness. One day about three years ago, Ally’s sister noticed she was experiencing some emotional disturbance. She invited Ally to her house and discovered that Ally’s left toe was wounded and seemed to be quite severe, so she urged Ally to go to a hospital for a check-up. The doctor told them that Ally’s left big toe was infected, and suggested to her to do an amputation. The next month after diagnosis, the infection spread to the 2nd and 3rd toes, and it had to be amputated too. The speed of amputation seemed to be slower than the infection because when entering the third month, the two toes left were also infected. Again, it had to be amputated. So, after being in and out for more than three months, the doctor decided to amputate the whole left calf to prevent further complications. Ally’s tormented days were finally over on the eve of Chinese New Year.
After a prosthetic was fitted on, Ally’s emotion did not turn better. Her emotion became even more unstable, she would suddenly burst into tears when she was alone. Ally was diagnosed with Diabetes when she was around the age of sixteen, the blood veins at the back of her eyes were injured, resulting in only 20% vision remaining in her left eye. Now with the addition of the amputation of her left calf, she was worried people would look down on her. One day, she asked her daughter: “Do you ever look down on mummy?” Her daughter answered: “Cut a limb only, nothing to look down on.” Ally’s daughter's answer had given great encouragement to her. Many times, when Ally noticed that her emotion was getting disturbed and might hurt herself or family members, she would quickly lock herself in the room or call her mother for help to avoid any disastrous event. Money Could Not Buy the Feeling of Being Cared ForZhou Yun and Serene Lim are volunteers of 7979 Care Station of Gereja Presbyterian Holy Light Tun Aminah. Their first visit to Ally’s place was when she was experiencing severe gastric and had been throwing out. During that time, Ah Kian and their two daughters took turns caring for her. After Zhou Yun and Serene Lim understood the conditions of the family, they decided to apply for aid from the 7979 Crisis Intervention Fund, so that their burden would be lessened. Later on, Zhou Yun and Serene Lim would visit Ally occasionally, she finally felt that there was someone who would listen to her anguish and care for her. “Money cannot buy this feeling of being cared for. I know Zhou Yun and Serene Lim genuinely cared for me, they are not bothered by who I am, and they understand my pain.”
Serene Lim is a counsellor, she provides counselling in dealing with Ally’s depression. Ally said: “10% changes are still changes.” Now, she is learning how to manage her emotion, especially when her temper builds up, she would try to cool herself down before speaking to her husband or children. Out of her expectations, she noticed that her tiny changes were slowly affecting her husband and her two daughters. Ally shared that in her process of receiving counselling, she learned to praise others for their good, this was something that never existed in the family. Ally’s depression has not fully recovered, sometimes she still falls into depression, however, she hopes that her path of self-recovery will be successful. Every Caring Move Prevent Ally’s Family From Being Easily Defeated
The poor song of sorrow seems to be relentless. Not long ago, Ah Kian would occasionally feel dizzy, after a hospital check-up, he was found to have heart failure and had to place a pacemaker. This sudden bad news left the family in a more difficult condition. Ally and her two daughters, the three of them hugged together and cried all their hearts out, they were in great anguish. “What would happen if my husband collapsed? I can’t work and we still have two daughters…” Ally poured out helplessly, but on the other hand, she told her family: “If we hold on to each other, then we will not be defeated.” Again, after Zhou Yun and Serene Lim became aware of the family’s predicament, they applied for aid from the 7979 Crisis Intervention Fund and with the addition of monthly food bags provision. Although this sum of money cannot fully solve the problems that they are facing, Ally is still thankful for the assistance provided by this group of friends and caring organisations. With the caring moves that these volunteers provide, Ally’s family will not be defeated easily. 十四年前，阿丽（化名）与比自己大十五岁的坚哥（化名）在一家卡拉OK相识，不久俩人便堕入爱河。结婚后，他们定居在柔佛士古来镇。阿丽曾在家庭诊所当诊所助理，也试过在超市打工。坚哥读书不多，很早就出来工作。阿丽生产后，就在家照顾孩子。在阿丽心中，坚哥是一个勤劳工作，愿意为家庭付出的男人。他们有一双女儿，一家四口虽不是常年大鱼大肉，但还是能过过日子。比较穷的时候，也经常要吃隔夜饭。 你会看不起妈咪吗？ 早前，阿丽遇到问题时，总是逆来顺受，不善于倾诉和表达自己。加上照顾家里的长辈，积累在心中的抑郁成了心理疾病。三年前某一天，阿丽的姐姐知道她情绪不稳定，邀请阿丽到家里坐。姐姐发现阿丽左脚拇指有伤口，似乎还很严重，便催促阿丽到医院做检查。医生说阿丽的左脚拇指患有细菌感染，建议阿丽截肢。第二个月，细菌感染扩散到左脚第二与第三只脚趾，阿丽需要再截肢。医生帮阿丽截肢的速度赶不上细菌快速扩散，第三个月，阿丽左脚剩下的两个脚趾头也遭殃。来回共三个多月，为避免夜长梦多，医生最终决定帮阿丽左边小腿截肢，阿丽煎熬的日子也在华人农历新年前终于告一段落。 装上义肢，并没让阿丽换上好心情。她的情绪越发不稳定，一个人的时候会不自觉爆哭。阿丽在十五，六岁时就患有糖尿病，眼睛后部血管损伤，导致左眼只剩二十巴仙视力。现在又失去左脚，阿丽很担心被人看不起。有天，她问女儿：“妳会看不起妈咪吗？”女儿回答：“Tok脚（福建话：切脚）罢了嘛，有什么看不起的。”女儿的回应给了阿丽带来很大的安慰。好几次，阿丽发现自己的状态不对，出现要伤害自己和家人的行为。她便把自己关在房间或打电话给母亲求助，才避免更严重的事情发生。 被关心的感觉，用钱买不到周芸和莉莉是皇后圣光7979全人关怀站的志工。她们第一次拜访阿丽时，阿丽正胃不舒服，一直呕吐。那时，坚哥和两位女儿轮流照顾阿丽。周芸和莉莉了解阿丽一家的处境后，便为他们申请7979急难救助金，减少一些家庭负担。后来，周芸和莉莉每隔一段时间都会探访阿丽，让阿丽感受到有人愿意聆听和关心自己的处境：“被关心的感觉，真的是用钱买不到的。周芸和莉莉真的是在关心我，不在乎我是一个怎么样的人。她们明白我的痛。” 莉莉也是一名辅导员，在阿丽忧郁的问题上提供个人辅导。阿丽说：“十巴仙的改变也是改变。” 现在，她开始学习管理自己的情绪，特别是脾气来的时候，先冷静自己，再跟丈夫和孩子沟通。意外地，阿丽发现她微小的改变，也一点一滴影响丈夫和两个女儿。阿丽说，她在接受辅导的过程中学习在好的事情上给予肯定，这是过去的家庭环境从未有过的。阿丽的忧郁疾病还没全然康复，有时还会陷入低谷，但她希望自己有天能做到自我疗愈。 每个关怀，让阿丽一家不轻易倒下穷人悲歌唱不完。不久前，坚哥时不时感觉头晕，检查后发现他患有心脏衰竭，需要装置心律调节器。突如其来的坏消息，让他们一家陷入更加艰难的境地。阿丽和两个女儿三人抱在一起大哭，大家都非常痛心。“如果老公倒了，我们该怎么办？我又没有能力工作，家里还有两个女儿……”阿丽非常无助地说。但同时，她也告诉家人，“只要我们相互扶持，就不会倒下。”得知阿丽的情况后，周芸和莉莉再次为阿丽一家申请7979急难救助金和送出每月干粮。虽然这一笔钱并不能完全解决阿丽的困境，但阿丽非常感谢身边还是有一些朋友和关怀组织的协助。有了他们每一个人的关怀，阿丽一家不会轻易倒下。  
2023年，7979全人关怀救助网络、MonQ 财商学院、双翼国度企业《增能父母》在10月和11月联办“7979亲子体验营”（以下统称“体验营”）。希望透过这体验营，让参加者了解弱势家庭生活的困境和需要以及筹募7979服务基金，所筹到的款项将用于帮助社区中的急难和弱势家庭。
这是大会第一次推出两种模式的活动——居家体验和户外体验。每一支参加的体验队伍由至少4人组成，并且同心合力地完成体验任务和筹款活动。透过大会设计的活动，让参加者们能够在艰巨的挑战中体验互相扶持、永不放弃的精神。 居家体验活动于10月27至29日进行。7队（26人）勇士（参加者）连续三天要居家完成挑战的体验活动，以体验弱势家庭的生活。每个队伍一天只能使用大会限定数额的膳食费和和用水量。看似简单的居家体验，但是对参加者而言很具挑战。“我一天就喝了半桶水，怎么够啊？”记得有位勇士分享他居家体验的感言。他说，这是弱势家庭每天需要经历的痛苦，生活很拮据，甚至连吃饭和洗澡都成问题，他们很需要大家的关爱。
居家体验活动线上开幕礼
11月12-13日，共有 14 队（58人）勇士到森美兰州不叻(Pedas) 的MonQ Land Resort，完成两天一夜的户外体验活动。勇士们除了骑着脚车完成任务，也能更贴近大自然。大会也准备特别的活动，例如登山健行、拜访原住民村和亲子活动等等。每一项活动都能让勇士们体验到弱势家庭艰难的生活。

| 2023年12月6日和7日，7979重灾管理处在吉兰丹救灾平台（KELANTAN DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK，KDRN）牵线下，把“防灾减灾，我最厉害”孩童防减灾醒觉教育活动，带到东马岸中华小学（92位孩童出席）和吉兰丹中正国民型华文小学（340位孩童出席）。 在此感谢KDRN，让7979有机会与陈国伟校长、符杰俊校长一起将这终身受用的防减灾训练导入校园当中。7979会继续帮助更多孩子们建立防减灾观念，期待2024有更多进入校园做宣导的机会。 |

马来西亚圣经神学院防火意识活动
趁开学之际，7979受邀到马来西亚圣经神学院为全体师生举办防火意识活动。为了让师生了解校内现有的消防措施，7979安排他们到校内指定的场所，了解现有消防设施，以及提出改善的火灾和逃生防范措施的建议。

2023年11月-2024年1月陪读班开班
随着第二学期末为期三星期的学校假期结束，陪读班中午时分再度响起了读书声，在3月份再次开办啦！涵盖南中北州，共有18间7979全人关怀站开办，受助学生人数超过200位。放学后，志工老师辅导孩子完成课业，同时间也透过一系列有趣活动塑造孩子正向品格。爱的陪伴，爱的关怀，照亮孩子前方路。
除了开班，马来西亚最南部的陪读班新山柔佛再也异象教会于1月14日举办成果报告日。约有90位出席活动，包括六位陪读班学生的家庭成员，以及特别嘉宾们，即柔佛再也华小陈思勤副校长、建集华小蔡美亮校长、学生事务副校长罗郁缃和伍慧思老师。
学生在当日当起了小小主持人，特意预备了精彩节目和感谢礼，为了向各方热心人士和老师们表达谢意。此外，也有两位家长分享孩子成长的点点滴滴，感谢老师们这段日子的陪伴。老师们也藉此颁发了成绩进步、勤到奖和上课表现佳奖，给予学生们肯定与鼓励。现场欢呼声连连。

Lately, a critically acclaimed movie, "Abang Adik” told us the stories of two unfortunate brothers who lived and worked at the downtown Pudu wet market. Both brothers were local yet lived like foreign workers because they had no identification documents. Henceforth, their lives were full of challenges and injustice. Similar incidents are happening in other places in Malaysia, many of us are aware of it, yet we don’t feel the pain because we are not the ones in difficulty. When will the sorrow of the poor stop? There was a social worker in the movie who helped the brothers, but she was unfortunately murdered. Hopefully, this incident will not be a stumbling block for you to serve others, but be the stepping stone for you to enhance your people-helping skills. Hence, 7979 provides a Volunteer Advance Training Course to enhance your people-helping skills and knowledge, while getting acquainted with people of the same field.
In the mid of writing this article, the authorities were actively clamping down on the overstayed foreign labour, our government encouraged the employers to legalise their employed foreign labour. Malaysia has how many foreign workers? Deputy Minister of the Human Resource Ministry, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud revealed that there are currently 2.73 million recorded foreign workers in Malaysia, but nobody knows the actual number. A conservative estimation of the actual figure might be double the official number. Foreign workers who entered the country legally failed to exit this country upon the expiry of their working permit will immediately classified as overstayed illegal foreign workers. In some cases, the foreign workers owed massive debts at home to come overseas to work, yet they ended up without work due to fraud. Negeri Sembilan’s State government planned to confine all foreign workers to a gazetted community for the convenience of governing and care. The pros and cons of this plan will definitely raise a lot of controversies, it all boils down to how we value one another.
At the same time. our government is also countering corruption. Revealing from a case's initial investigation, the figure was as massive as a nation’s income; yet some said that was only the peak of an iceberg. If that were to be true, then how many generations of quality lives has it snatched away? Hopefully, you will not lose hope because of all these, but choose to be the light that spreads warmness in this society that is turning more and more indifferent by practising kindness every day of our lives.
The weak Malaysia Ringgit has directly or indirectly increased our cost of living. The official inflation rate seems to be at an acceptable level, yet in our daily lives and from our purchasing power, we can feel the pressure of it. The grassroots especially received the hardest blow, they always feel there is not enough money to use. We urge you to participate in our 100 X RM100 small-amount fundraising project, and be one of the 100 donors in this season, to assist families in crisis to weather the storm.
Lastly, I wanted to say, that the neighbourhood around Pudu is occupied by the grassroots and the poor, the Chinese here speak Cantonese and not Mandarin as in the movie, and recently the language here has become more varied with the addition of more foreign languages. Hopefully, the tears that you shed watching the movie will help you to turn compassion into actions to help others. Amid ordinary and poverty, many landmark high-rise buildings can be seen from that place, where is our place? Are you willing to walk into the poor and accompany them?
